Amon Amarth: Viking Fury Unleashed at SPAC (9/9/2025)

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Before Pantera took the stage, Amon Amarth transformed SPAC into a mythic battlefield. The Swedish melodic death metal giants brought thunderous riffs, Norse iconography, and a stage presence that bordered on cinematic.

Opening with “Guardians of Asgaard,” the band wasted no time summoning their signature blend of brutality and grandeur. Johan Hegg, towering and charismatic, roared through the mic like a warlord rallying his troops. His growls were guttural yet articulate, commanding the crowd with every verse.

The setlist was a fan’s dream: “Shield Wall,” “The Pursuit of Vikings,” “Raise Your Horns,” and “Twilight of the Thunder God” each landed like hammer strikes. The synchronized headbanging, fire-themed visuals, and Viking ship props gave the performance a theatrical edge without ever feeling gimmicky.

Musically, Amon Amarth was airtight. The twin guitar assault of Olavi Mikkonen and Johan Söderberg carved melodic lines through the chaos, while Ted Lundström and Jocke Wallgren held down the rhythm section with precision and power.

The crowd responded in kind—horns raised, chants echoing, and circle pits swirling like whirlpools. For many, Amon Amarth wasn’t just an opener; they were a co-headliner in spirit.
