Caffe Lena – Week at a Glance

Caffe Lena
Greetings – While a good chunk of Saratoga was swamped by a power failure on Halloween, the lights mercifully stayed on at Lena’s for a couple shows of Grateful Dead covers by Deadgrass. The crowd had a heck of a good time punctuating the familiar songs with whoops and cheers. Good vibes fueled by good music, happy memories, and, well, probably a bit of something that’s legal now and didn’t use to be when the fans first fell in love with these songs. I found a Frank Zappa quote recently: “It isn’t necessary to imagine the world ending in fire or ice—there are two other possibilities: one is paperwork, and the other is nostalgia.”  I’m rooting for nostalgia, and there’s nothing that fuels it like music.

But this coming week we look forward, with a very talented trio, the Cody Sisters, for our Bright Series. These young women grew up in a family band and they can really pick. We also have the wise and wonderful Flamy Grant, who is the folk world’s favorite (only?) drag queen; plus superb old-school jazz from NYC with The Lovestruck Balladeers, and singer-songwriter Dan Navarro who never fails to take our hearts on a journey. I encourage you to join us!

See you at the show,
Sarah
