Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week airs EVERY WEDNESDAY at 6pm Eastern ONLY on RadioRadioX.com
This is Jesse Sample. A lot of things of had to go right for us all to be here right now. We exist in the world of Grocery markets and iPhones, restaurants and airplanes, and McDonalds and inalienable rights. These are small parts of the greater thing we call civilization. People built these concepts and had skin in the game. The concept of “human rights” does not exist in the natural world. Try arguing to a Grizzley bear or a pack of wolves that you have the right to life liberty and the pursuit of happiness. And Big Macs did not grow legs and walk out of the ocean. These are privileges afforded to us brave and innovative people.
If you are listening to this in the US, many of us just got rocked with 2 feet of snow and subzero temperatures. This could have represented an existential problem not so long ago. But we went to Hannaford and bought food sourced from all over the world, broke out our crockpots, and settled in for a two-day Netflix and chill. If you really break down all the things that needed to go right for all of that to occur, you might be brought to tears for your good fortune.
This thing we call civilization is thousands of years in the making but the ease which we can fall back to some wild habits is astounding. Think about the last time someone cut you off in traffic. Next time something like that happens, and you’re transported to the stone age, try and remember those sweet, good people who had the discipline and vision to create light where there was once darkness. I’ll be doing the same.
