Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week airs EVERY WEDNESDAY at 6pm Eastern ONLY on RadioRadioX.com
This is Jesse Sample. Something is coming to a head. I heard the phrase, “people talking past each other” and it stuck with me. I think there are times when I want my narrative, and I don’t care about what someone, who disagrees, thinks or feels. I know for a fact, I could make more times where I ask someone, “Hey. Can you break that down for me? How’d you get there?”
What happens when that someone who you disagree with is very close to you? Perhaps it’s a family member. What if this person changed my diapers? Would I be so bold as to call them a fool? They cared for me and tended to me when I was vulnerable. Could I afford the presence of mind to say, “Excuse me. I disagree with that. Can you show me how you got there?
In my experience, the times that I feel most righteous usually come right before I am proven undeniably wrong. And the times I am unsure, are where I can get the broadest perspective and hone in on the nuance. There are hills worth dying on but it’s important to make sure you got the right one.
