A parent’s worst nightmare is their child being sick. Finding out your child has an inoperable brain tumor is that worst fear come to life. What does one do with this type of information? How does one remain positive in the face of such a devastating prognosis? Where does one turn for help? They turn to the Cristian Rivera Foundation.
Diffuse Intrinsic Pontine Glioma (DIPG) is a rare and aggressive brain tumor that mostly affects children. With no known cure and a survival rate of less than 1%, it leaves families grappling with unimaginable loss and heartbreak. The Cristian Rivera Foundation was created to provide hope and help for those impacted by this devastating disease.
Cristian Rivera was a vibrant, loving child whose life was tragically cut short by DIPG. Diagnosed at just four years old, Cristian’s journey was a testament to courage and resilience. His battle with the disease lasted two years, during which he faced countless treatments with incredible strength. He passed away at the age of six, leaving a lasting impression on all who knew him.
In honor of Cristian’s legacy, his father, John Rivera, founded the Cristian Rivera Foundation in 2009. The organization is committed to supporting families, funding research to find a cure, and spreading awareness about DIPG. Through its tireless efforts, the Foundation carries Cristian’s spirit forward, offering hope to families and working toward a future where no child has to endure such a heartbreaking diagnosis.
