I like to reserve this space for stories we can share a chuckle over. It is a strange and wild world. But it isn’t all laughs, and when a story touches my heart, I have to go for it, right?
Yasuo Takamatsu. Bus driver. His wife, Yuko, a bank teller. The land in which they liked in 2011, Fukushima, Japan. And a tsunami would change everything.
Yasuo was far enough away that he wasn’t direly impacted, but his wife was not so fortunate. The last trace of her as a living human being was an undelivered text at 3:25pm saying “the tsunami is disastrous.” Nothing was seen or heard from her again.
In light of the utter devastation the tsunami had on Fukushima, and the nuclear catastrophe still ongoing, Yasuo would have been respectably regarded as a man in morning, but he didn’t set himself upon that fate. He searched for Yuko, He searched on land for two-and-a-half years. And when he didn’t find her, he took diving lessons and began to search the sea.
He’s been searching land and sea for over ten years, with six hundred dives under his belt. He’s joined groups in searching for any remains period, of the two thousand, five hundred still missing, but he continues to search for anything that can help him find Yuko.
Funny how we think of love in terms of flowers and fancy dinners and favorite hoodies, and this guy is just soul bound to the woman he loved, and loves. You have to wonder if you had that dedication, or if it’s possible, or rather probable to find that level of devotion. Remembering to lift the toilet seat doesn’t seem to cut it, you know?
So that is love. That is Yasuo Takamatsu. Don’t settle for anything less, I guess.

Beatles
In the universe of Beatles lore, Pete Best was the drummer that was replaced by Ringo Starr. Best’s mother had opened up a basement venue called The Casbah Coffee Club, a place where the Beatles, in that incarnation played many times, and slept there, again, many times.
Now Best has converted the upstairs into five AirBnB apartments. The apartments are named after the Beatles, and are decorated in Beatles memorabilia; photos, letters, guitars, etc. The club downstairs is largely intact, with drum displays.
The AirBnB has been officially opened, but they have been taking reservations since the beginning of the month.
Sex Pistols
The sex pistols will have a new singer for a set of UK gigs in the fall of 2024. Frank Carter. Carter is taking the place of longtime singer Johnny Rotten, who had an acrimonious split with the band in April of 22 over the band’s participation in a biopic without him.
Carter will join original band members Steve Jones, Glen Matlock, and Paul will play five shows in the month of September.
Tickets are on sale now, and more will be available today.

The Black Crowes
Having released “Happiness Bastards,” their fist album in 15 years, The Black Crowes had planned on touring with Aerosmith. But when Steven Tyler’s vocal injuries sidelined the band’s ability to tour, the Crowes had to pivot. The have now come up with a new Fall Tour with a new set of dates.
The tour will kick off in Akron, Ohio on September 27th and will conclude in Port Chester, NY with two nights at the Capitol Theatre.
Tickets went on sale today at 10am.

Amyl and the Sniffers
B2B Records will be releasing a new album on October 25th, Amyl and the Sniffers’ first album in three years, called “Cartoon Darkness.” They’ve share a single, called “Chewing Gum.”
“Cartoon Darkness is about climate crisis, war, AI, tiptoeing on the eggshells of politics, and people feeling like they’re helping by having a voice online when we’re all just feeding the data beast of Big Tech, our modern-day god,” says singer Amy Taylor. “It’s about the fact that our generation is spoon-fed information. We look like adults, but we’re children forever cocooned in a shell. We’re all passively gulping up distractions that don’t even cause pleasure, sensation or joy, they just cause numbness.”
Amyll and the Sniffers just finished up a tour with Foo Fighters and will be launching a tour themselves. It’ll be a UK/EU Fall Tour, with a big show opening for Fontaines D.C. next July.

Summer Square Series from Troy Savings Bank Music Hall
TROY, NEW YORK: The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall’s free Summer Square series presented by New York State Council on the Arts (NYSCA) and Bacchus Wood-Fired returns this Saturday, August 24th with Zan and the Winter Folk! A summer favorite, the free outdoor concert series will be held Saturday evenings at 6pm through August. Located in the Music Hall courtyard on 2nd Street, the series will be showcasing some of the area’s top talents. Bring your lawn chairs and enjoy some summer fun!

Zan and The Winter Folk is an Americana group performing anthems for the revivalists, lullabies for the lonely, and ballads for the hopeful. The Winter Folk blend an upbeat, rootsy spirit with a melodic longing and vulnerability in their storytelling.
Saturday, August 31st: Dust Bowl Faeries
Dust Bowl Faeries perform a faerie-tale fusion of dark cabaret and gothic polka music, infused with a dose of witchcraft and a dusting of woodland magic. Celebrating their ten year anniversary in 2024, the accordion driven freak-folk ensemble hails from the New York Hudson Valley and draws inspiration from sinister circus songs, murder ballads and Eastern European folk music. Singing saw, piano accordion, electric bass, percussion and acoustic guitar combine to create the Dust Bowl Faeries otherworldly sound. Dust Bowl Faeries was founded by Ryder Cooley (faerie queen) and her taxidermy spirit animal, Hazel the Ram. Ryder and Hazel are joined by Jon B. Woodin (rocket faerie), Jude Roberts (hobbit faerie) for this special trio performance at Summer Square.

Upstate NY’s leading music promoter E1PRESENTS brings back the “Rock The Lake” 80’s music festival to beautiful Lake George NY for an outdoor two day music festival on Sept. 14 & 15, 2024!
Rock The Lake brings an electrifying experience for fans of the 80’s era music, as well as anyone looking to have an amazing weekend of entertainment. With a lineup of incredible tribute bands, attendees will be treated to unforgettable performances that pay homage to some of the greatest artists and songs of the 80’s.
On Saturday, Sept. 14 from 12:00pm to 8:00pm, we have five great tribute bands that have a major following and are well known throughout the area. The bands are:

Live Wire 518 (Motley Crue tribute);
Southbound Renegade (southern rock);
KISSTORY (#1 KISS tribute band); and
Back In Black (The True AC/DC Experience).
On Sunday, Sept. 15 from 12:00pm to 5:00pm, four top tribute bands will be performing. The bands are:

Desperadoes (Eagles tribute);
The BrokenHearted (Tom Petty tribute); and
Run Rabbit Run (Pink Floyd Tribute).

In addition to the outstanding musical performances, the Rock The Lake events will offer attendees access to food vendors offering delicious cuisine and a variety of beverage options. There will also be a merchandise area.
VIP 21yrs +: A large VIP tent will be available for VIP ticket holders only, with tables and chairs plus access to a private bar for drinks. VIP members also have front of stage access (in front of barricades) for that up close and personal view, along with meet and greets with the bands.
Saturday’s VIP tent will host Anthony Corder (Voice of Tora Tora) Acoustic for two solo performances. This is for the VIP ticket holders ONLY.

In Midsummer Madness, Will Kempe’s Players will mount Shakespeare’s Midsummer Night’s Dream: And they won’t know who’s who– The cast list will come out in front of you! We will be recast each performance, live and in person, and take the stage with a new combination of characters. We will swap our scripts and speed-design our show, choosing our costumes and props in a race against the Clock Until Curtain. Much like in Elizabethan England, we will be collaborating with one another to create a piece of theater that is based in our deep love for and knowledge of the story: Without the ability to rehearse or codify our choices. The audience will be encouraged to interact at their own level of comfortability, ranging from responding to cue cards, helping us select cast members, and even possibly taking on a small role themselves! Our “Shakespearience” hopes to explore Original Practices by creating space for controlled, creative, collaborative chaos and inviting the audience to explore along with us.

This is Jesse Sample. Nobody likes being alone. Meeting someone special is one of the great things in life. You may find yourself walking around on a cloud and it might seem like nothing can get you down. I’m spending a couple days by the ocean and when I’m by the sea, the writing leans heavily into the sheer power and magnitude of it. The ocean covers over 70% of the earth’s surface and, no doubt, it is inhabited by a plethora of creatures trying to hook up, meet someone and find love.
