Gregory Nash – by Michael Bruce.

I have to take a moment at my little internet space in the world to talk about Gregory Nash . Wow. It doesn’t seem real he has moved on. In this photo Greg is next to me in the purple sweater. Next to him is Rich Palleja, and on my other side is Mark Sudano. This photo means the world to me. Not only because it was a real nice photo surrounded by good friends and fellow great drummers, but especially because Greg was there to see my drum clinic that I hosted at Parkway Music that day. It was fantastic that anyone would want to come to my drum clinic to see me teach and discuss drumming, but especially Greg. Greg is a drummer who I admired to the top of the hill. He is so freaking talented, and one of the very best drummers for tons of miles around.

When I was performing non-stop all over with The Velmass, Greg seemed to be at every turn with me performing with one of his bands. SIRSY, Ten Year Vamp, etc. Our bands ran all over New York and beyond, even sometimes performing on any given night together. Greg and I found an incredible mutual respect for each other as people, drummers, and performers. Every time we saw each other we had great conversations about KISS, The Rolling Stones, drumming, and music in general. What a great guy. However, when it was time to perform, I was front and center to watch Greg Nash. He had kinda a unique feel, and the way he moved around the drum kit. His musicality/groove was just awesome. He was a total pro at everything he did. I admired him, learned from him, and was entertained by him. I used to judge the drum off competitions at The Guitar Center, and Greg competed a couple of times. He won one of them, and hair away from a second. I remember when it was his turn to play his solo, I KNEW it was going to be something special.

Anyway, I circle back to the day of my drum clinic and this photo. I was so honored that he was there to listen and learn something from me. He even posted about it on his Facebook page saying nothing, but positive reviews about the clinic. I was truly in awe. I will miss you Greg. Until we jam again!
