Fortepiano: A Peek into History

90 minute interactive performance & deep dive

Enjoy Haydn and Mozart’s piano works performed as they intended them to be heard — on a Viennese fortepiano. During the Classical era in Vienna, composers expected their keyboard music to entertain relatively small audiences in more intimate spaces than today’s 1500-seat concert halls. And, the era’s pianos — known as Viennese fortepianos — are very different from modern Steinways.

Fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz is based in Vienna and studied Historical Performance at the Royal Academy of Music in London and at Vienna’s University for Music and Performing Arts. He performs on historic Viennese fortepianos, utilizing the vast range of tones, colors, and techniques familiar to Classical-era composers

No registration needed, all are welcome to attend this FREE event.

“Exploring Wind Instruments & Piano”

Instrument Petting Zoo and Student Performance

Join us for an exploration and discovery of the instruments that make up Heliand Consort! Listen, learn, and play along on the oboe, bassoon, and piano!

This workshop is a hands-on exploratory musical experience. The musicians will begin with an interactive series of songs/pieces that will introduce the students to chamber music and each instrument: piano, oboe, and bassoon. Students will be able to identify how each instrument works, how to produce a sound, and how each instrument fits into the chamber ensemble. Students will have an opportunity to try out each instrument in the later portion of this workshop, where the musicians will host a petting zoo!

Target Age Group: Students Grade 1 through 4, also open to the public with limited seating available.
