50 years ago: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band @ the Music Inn
The songs from Springsteen’s soon-to-be-released third album, especially “10th Avenue Freezeup,” “Born to Run” (the title song) and “All the Redemption I Got Is Under My Hood” were great.

The final set was a zany performance by the Turtles. They came out to a wild heavy metal riff, and then proceeded with a dandy Bruce Springsteen impersonation, a reggae tune, and absolutely eerie Doors piece and a few verse from “We Are the World.”

30 years ago: Amy Grant / Ashley Cleveland @ Saratoga Performing Arts Center
And just because she chooses to sing pop songs, don’t make the mistake of thinking that Grant’s repertoire is all fluff. “Ask Me,” a potent, heartwrenching tale of sexual abuse, was a standout selection of the evening.

20 years ago: The Falcon Ridge Folk Festival @ Long Hill Farm
Crooked Still is made up of cellist Rushad Eggleston, singer Aoife O’Donovan, banjoist Gresg Liszt, and bassist Corey DiMario. But the superstars, or soon to be superstars, are Rushad and Aoife.
When Rushad yanks and pushes that bow, when he throws it around, his face lights up and contorts. All the while Aoife is laying down vocal tracks like honey on toast. Yum.
