SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – Australia’s King Parrot opened the evening with a set that was short, savage, and utterly unhinged—in the best way possible. Their brand of grindcore is fast, filthy, and laced with punk chaos, and they brought it all to SPAC with zero restraint.
Frontman Matt Young was a whirlwind of snarls, screams, and manic energy. He leapt across the stage, spat lyrics like venom, and engaged the crowd with a mix of aggression and absurdity. Tracks like “Bozo,” “Disgrace Yourself,” and “Shit on the Liver” hit like gut punches, each one delivered with feral intensity.
Despite being the first band onstage, King Parrot made their presence felt. The early crowd—many of whom arrived specifically to catch their set—responded with mosh pits and raised fists. Their raw, DIY aesthetic contrasted sharply with the polished grandeur of the headliners, but that contrast only amplified their impact.
King Parrot didn’t warm up the crowd. They lit the fuse.
