Weekend at Bernie’s Live Action – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.
Sometimes stories can make you sad. Or furious. Or make you laugh your ass off. I don’t know which one this is, but if there were such a thing as a three-sided coin or a three sided die, I’dd tell you to flip or roll and go with it.
So no lead off. No further lead off. Here’s the steak. Meet Paulo Roberto Braga. He’s 68. He enjoys old movies and walks along the beach and spicy chili. Did I mention he’s dead? Yeah, that. He’s dead. But that didn’t stop his niece and caregiver, Erika de Souza Vieira Nunes, from wheeling him into a bank to have him sign a loan. Yes. She did that. She held his head up and kept it from swaying side-to-side, which apparently happened a little bit anyway and she tried to get a pen in his hand to sign the loan agreement, his license nearby.
Apparently, she had a “conversation” with him in front of the incredulous loan officer, asking him if he wanted to go to the hospital, to which she shook his head “no.” (I have no idea if she shook his head, but that would’ve been hilarious) Anyhow, she got arrested, of course. And they don’t know what killed him, or if he’d started the loan process before he kicked it. I would hope so. Loans can take months, and it’s so hard to get that “dead guy” smell out of a room.
So this is what “Weekend at Bernies” looks like in real life. I’m not even exaggerating, that’s the funny part. But that is pretty disgusting. I hope they throw the book at her, honestly. If she was willing to do that and she was his caregiver, she wouldn’t have been above cashing his checks and feeding his dog food. That’s what I’m talking about with the three-sided coin.
