This Week at Caffe Lena – 3/10 – 3/16

Greetings – All of us here at Caffe Lena–on stage, in the seats and behind the scenes–are big believers that Small Is Beautiful. Thanks to the long legacy and great reputation of this room, we’re able to attract some pretty extraordinary talent to this teacup of a concert hall. But once in while there’s a band we really, really want to share with you and we can’t get a “yes” for a show in our venue. That’s when it’s time to call our friends at SPAC, or UPH, or Skidmore. We love the opportunity to work together to make things happen that we couldn’t do alone.

This Friday’s concert with DakhaBrakha is a perfect example. Like millions of others, I first heard of the band when I saw their NPR Tiny Desk debut in 2015. I couldn’t believe my eyes and ears! That was the day I first started trying to get them here to Lena’s. After finally sitting down face to face with their USA rep in 2023 at a conference out in Kansas City, we got to “yes” when SPAC joined the conversation and offered their Spa Little Theater. This is an extraordinary time to be spending an evening with one of Kyiv’s most beloved musical acts.

We have two very special newcomers on the Caffe stage this weekend. Colorado singer-songwriter Emily Scott Robinson has captivated our whole staff. Big heart, beautiful voice, superb songwriting & the acclamation of top reviewers. And Liam Purcell and Cane Mill Road are perfect for the Bright Series. Originally hailing from North Carolina and now based in Nashville, these fabulous young musicians were raised in the bluegrass tradition. They are among the most celebrated young creators in the genre today.
