Caffe Lena – Week at a Glance
By Liam Sweeny on April 2, 2025
Greetings – Yes, this is your Monday morning newsletter arriving on Wednesday morning. I’m just returning from a few days in the folk music mecca of North Carolina, home of bluegrass, Appalachian mountain stringbands, Piedmont blues, as well as more pollen than I’ve ever seen in my life. While I was away, two new show managers were being trained at the Caffe. I look forward to you all meeting Brittany Nasser, a former record shop owner (DeVinyl Revolution) and deeply experienced kitchen manager, and Arturo Wachala, a jazz artist and student of history. They’re both off to a great start.
I’m also excited to tell you that Hannah Stirzaker, who has been our main house manager for the last few years, is now handling the concert booking. She has been training with me for the past year. When I took that trip to North Carolina, I hit the road without my booking notebook for the first time in 25 years. This Thursday’s show with Abby Posner is Hannah’s First Booking! I want you all to come lend an ear to an artist who Hannah really believes in and wants you to hear. Thanks to all of you for welcoming new artists, welcoming new staff, and being part of a healthy, evolving folk community.
See you at the show,
Sarah
