Caffe Lena – Week at a Glance
By Staff on June 2, 2025
Greetings – This month (and every month) we’re celebrating diversity and everyone is included, because there’s no other way to do folk music. Folk is music for all of us, made by us, telling our story. “Midnight Special” was written in a jail cell. “Which Side Are You On?” was written for poor, abused Harlan County stikers. “We Shall Not Be Moved” was sung by innumerable civil rights marchers. Here, for Pride Month, is Janis Ian’s funny/not-funny story & song about getting married. These are the voices that make up folk music. We’re grateful every day to be at the center of a community that creates space every voice. Welcome to all the new, returned and upgraded members who stepped up during our 65-for-65 Membership Drive–and thanks to all you stalwarts for keeping this community strong.
And now for this week at the little club that never sleeps! Carolyn Wonderland and Glen David Andrews in the same weekend?! The kick-off for this year’s Mostly Modern Festival. A family concert with the irresistably charming Jenna Nicholls. And the Capital Region’s very own Sean Rowe. There’s poetry, and storytelling, and open mic, and jams. Come be part of it!
See you at the show,
Sarah
