Caffe Lena – Week at a Glance
By Staff on August 25, 2025
Greetings – One of the reasons Alexis Suter was greeted with that standing ovation (see caption above) was because some ringleaders in the audience had become aware that her mother, the gospel singer Carrie Suter, had died just the day before. It would have been perfectly understandable if Alexis had called us up and said, “I can’t do it.” Grief so often makes us pull back into our safe spaces–we readily respect that need for privacy. Instead, Alexis threw herself wide open, and the audience responded to the realness, and everyone was just full of love and trust and the energy was flowing through the room. Songwriters stand on stage, wide open to the unending chaos and beauty of the world, trusting that we will meet their openness with our own openness. That’s emotional courage, and it’s always worth celebrating–sometimes with a standing ovation.
We have such good shows lined up for this final August weekend, and then we’re going to close for three days to refinish the wood floors and install a new dishwasher. Enjoy perusing the schedule and sampling some songs, and deciding which is the one for you!
See you at the show,
Sarah
