Sugar
Sugar, Bob Mould’s 90’s band, is reforming. This had been teased recently on Instagram, but it is now official. It will be the original lineup of Mould, David Barbe and Malcolm Travis. They have announced new shows, and a brand new song.
“Sugar was a meteorite,” Bob Mould said to BrooklynVegan. “I spent all of 1991 writing and performing new material at solo shows. David and Malcolm had never met but I was certain we three would work well together. After weeks of rehearsal in early 1992, we spent three months recording Copper Blue and Beaster. By summer 1992, the musical climate was perfect for what we created. No one could have predicted the results. We held onto the wheel and did our best to enjoy the wild ride. SUGAR was part of a pivotal era in popular music, and a special time in my life.”
Shows are planned in Webster Hall in NYC on May 2nd and 3rd. And the O2 Forum Kentish Town on May 23rd and 24th. Tickets go on sale Friday, October 24.
CKY
CKY is making their first release in 7 years. Named “Can’t Stop Running”, It was released without fanfare. In a press conference, singer and guitarist Chad I. Ginsburg said, “This song has been a favorite of ours since it was written and demoed, and has remained one of our favorites in our catalog,”
The new song arrives in time of a UK tour in the fall.
“It will be played on tour and we’re very proud of it,” Ginsburg added. “The video is coming and we couldn’t give a shit about anyone who doesn’t like it. The rest of the upcoming songs we will be releasing are all over the map — however, this one happens to be one of our favorites. It has the perfect happy/sad feel, and is a progression and growth in writing.”
Avett Brothers
The Avett Brothers and Mike Patton have a collaborative album coming up, AVTT/PTTN, and they’ve released a second single from that album. It’s called “Heaven’s Breath,” and it is heavier fare than Avett Brothers are known for. This was Scott Avett’s first offering to the project. The album itself has nine songs, and was put together by Grammy-winning engineer Dana Nielsen.
Mike Patton joked, “My peculiar challenge in this was to become a long distant cousin. A brother that was orphaned. Maybe they kept him in the chicken coop or some shit. They brought him out years and years later.”
