The Dixie Dregs with Steve Morse Band opening
May 19, 2024 – The Egg
Opening for himself, Steve Morse proved, once again, why he is a guitar hero to many of us. On this evening, his band, The Steve Morse Band, opened for his band, The Dixie Dregs.
Among Steve’s other musical stints are Kansas in the early 80’s and again in 1991 and Deep Purple for nearly 30 years
The 3 piece Steve Morse Band (Steve Morse guitar, Dave LeRue bass and Van Romaine drums) was a prelude to an evening filled with effortless guitar work, rock solid back beats and bass as a lead instrument as well as the traditional role holding up be bottom end.   A few technical issues with LeRue’s bass not making it to the main sound reinforcement couldn’t dampen the great starter for an evening filled with unique rhythms and tasty licks.
Following about a half hour break, The Dregs (Steve Morse guitar,  Andy West bass, Rod Morgenstein drums, Allen Sloan electric violin and Jorden Rudess keyboards) ripped off any remaining band aids and simply tore the roof off the Egg.
The Dregs set was a mix of the familiar and the less played. Free Fall, Go for Baroque, I’m Freaking Out, Night of the Living Dregs Cruise Control and Bloodsucking Leeches are among the fan favorites for the evening.
One only the word of myself and another friend, my friend Jaff joined in the festivities.  Mind you, that is not a small task.  He drove in Saturday from Toledo, OH to see this show.  And to say he was impressed is putting it mildly.
The Dixie Dregs proved you can, indeed, revisit the past sometimes and be blown away all over again.
