Ten Ton Mojo: Turning the Volume Back Up on Rock and Roll
by Lori McKone.
In a music landscape dominated by algorithm-driven pop, Ten Ton Mojo is unapologetically loud, raw, and real. This New York-based band isn’t chasing trends they’re reviving a legacy. With thunderous riffs, gritty vocals, and a stage presence that grabs you by the collar, Ten Ton Mojo is leading a movement to bring rock and roll roaring back.
At the helm is frontman David Anthony, whose voice carries both power and purpose. “We’re here to remind people that rock isn’t dead,” he says. “Hopefully we can influence other bands and start a resurgence.”
Ten Ton Mojo’s sound is a fierce blend of classic rock roots sharpened for today’s ears. Think Ozzy Osbourne, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Led Zeppelin, and the Allman Brothers. It’s not nostalgia. It’s resurrection.
Whether it’s a tight 30-minute set or a full 90-minute journey, Ten Ton Mojo’s live performances are electric. Every show is a chance to connect – not through spectacle, but through sound. Their fans don’t just listen; they feel it.
David Anthony’s delivery is more than powerful – it’s personal. His delivery carries stories, reflections, and raw emotion. “I want people to feel something …the music should mean something.”
Behind the scenes, legendary producer Max Norman – known for shaping Ozzy Osbourne’s sonic empire – has played a pivotal role in refining the band’s sound. His influence wasn’t about changing the band’s identity but enhancing their storytelling. “Max showed us how to rearrange a track in ways we hadn’t considered,” they explained. “It wasn’t about compromise. It was about clarity.”
Their songwriting process is refreshingly organic. Ten Ton Mojo writes the way rock was meant to be written – together, in the room, chasing the spark. “There’s no formula,” they say. “If it doesn’t move us, we let it go.” Their process is collaborative, instinctive, and refreshingly unpolished – no hierarchy, no ego.
What truly sets Ten Ton Mojo apart is their commitment to storytelling. Their lyrics aren’t confessional diaries or industry gossip they’re tales of rebellion, heartbreak, grit, and triumph. The kind of storytelling that’s been missing from modern music.
They see themselves as part of a lineage – artists who used music to take listeners on a journey. “That’s what’s been missing. Albums that feel like a journey.”
Their lyrics aren’t just words they’re vehicles for emotion, character, and atmosphere. And while they may not be interested in unpacking their own lives, they’re deeply invested in crafting songs that resonate with listeners on a visceral level.
The band is laser-focused. They don’t want to talk about the industry politics, their personal challenges, or the lifestyle that comes with being in a band. “We shut that down,” they say. “We’re not here for the drama. We’re here to bring rock and roll back.”
And they mean it. Every riff, every lyric, every show is a declaration: rock and roll isn’t dead – it’s just been waiting for the right band to wake it up.
