31/Atlas: Comet or Cosmic Cruiser? – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.

31/Atlas. The third identified thing ever to come into our solar system from outside the galaxy. NASA says that it is a comet and nothing more, and conspiracy theorists think… well, they think a lot of things, but the words ‘hostile alien craft’ have been thrown around.

I’m not sure where I am on 31/Atlas. I can totally believe that it’s an alien craft of some sort,m but in my heart I know it’s just a comet.

Hear this, though, that NASA’s in the sh*t position here. Say they’re right? Who’s gonna pat them on the back for getting it right once everybody’s moved on. But if they’re wrong, they’re really, really wrong. Like “it-will-be-mentioned-in-the-history-books” wrong. But Joe Dick can say it’s a breeding facility for grey lizard conquerors and the next day who the hell cares? I get why conspiracy theories are so tempting to get into.

So here’s something I thought about. 31/Atlas is cool and weird and all that could still be just a comet, but an advanced alien craft would be well set to disguise their craft as a comet so they don’t get nuked. Like we would almost certainly do. The nuclear football would definitely score a field goal that day.

And to go even further, the way things are going, we’re going to be cranking out materials that can do anything, be anything. We assume that ‘advanced’ means ‘sleek’ when really a ship constructed as a comet couls still be crazy advanced. There’s no air resistance in space, so you don’t have to have an aerodynamic ship. The Borg cube, for example.

I’ll leave one last point. Is anybody else kind of hoping they’ve come to take over the world? I’m like ‘C’mon, friends, let it happen.’ I’m about to have a roof party with an ‘Abduct Me’ sign.
