Greetings – If all goes according to plan, there’s good chance the mercury will climb above 40 this week! Just in time for some spring shows packed with stories and songs told by the kind of people you yearn to be around. Seems like once people find this corner of the music world, they don’t want to leave. Garnet Rogers and Roomful of Blues have been at it for more than 50 years. The first time we brought Roomful here, we were all wondering if the room might be, well, a little too full with an 8-piece band on stage. Now, several years later, neither band, nor fans, nor venue would miss their annual visit to Lena’s!

On the other end of the career timeline, you have Midnight Choir. Bluegrass endures because of bands like this. They see limitless possibilities in the blending of mandolin, bass, guitar and voices. There’s the whisper of the Southern mountains in their melodies, but blending right in are elements of jazz, classical and global traditions. These sophisticated newcomers from the Capital Region arrive like a fresh breeze in a style of music that sometimes gets a little overheated.

And we wrap up our weekend on Sunday with a matinee of folksongs and storytelling with Dan Berggren and Jeannine Laverty. In a world of virtual friends and constant career moves, Dan and Jeannine celebrate farmers, mountain people, and neighbors who share the land for generations. You’ll be inspired to get your peas and kale planted by the time you leave the show!
