Nirvava “In Utero” 30th Anniversary Reissue

Nirvana reissue.

Reissues are cool. We cover them because usually the band was someone kickass, and the original album, while great, was “lightning in a bottle.” And a lot of times, it was subject to studio pressures. I’m not talking about that 80s big band that reissued their fourteenth album just to scrape up a quick million, changing not much but the cover. I’m talking about iconic bands that put out legendary albums, but at the time, maybe wanted to put out more.

It’s in this spirit that I bring to you a band, Nirvana, and the 30^th anniversary of their album, “In Utero,” and yes, a reissue.

“In Utero wasn’t “Nevermind,” and you might argue that “In Utero wasn’t “Bleach,” if you’re a deep Nirvana fan that wants to champion “Bleach.” But “In Utero was the album that followed “Nevermind,” which was the ultimate of tough acts to follow.

Maybe you can consider this reissue a ‘second bite of the apple’ for “In Utero.” And you may be very literal in that assertion, since their 20^th anniversary in 2013 came with its own reissue. But that one had the standard fare. This one really opens it up.

This reissue has a few different ways to reach you, namely an 8-LP Super Deluxe box set, a 5-CD Super Deluxe box set, a 2-CD Deluxe edition, a 1-LP vinyl edition, and a digital Super Deluxe edition. So whatever level fan you are, there’s something.

These tracks are the originals, bonus tracks, outtakes, live concerts, and those inner studio recordings, in many instances taken right off the analog stereo master tapes. Nirvana was really keen on keeping the recording process for In Utero secretive, so this is really a peek inside a place where they felt free to be themselves.

Aside from the music, these box sets have new fanzines, tour posters, holographic cover designs. If you’re a Nirvana fan, this is a must-have. If you’re not, or you weren’t around in Nirvana’s heyday, you could spend money in worse ways.

How much? No clue. Not here to sell it – don’t kill the messenger. And no, we don’t get paid to promote this stuff. It’s just how we show love.
