Troy’s First-Ever Graffiti Gala — Making our Towns Beautiful Again. By Tammie Birdwell.

On Saturday night, October 14th, Bootlegger’s on Broadway, Kriztix Art, and Kristopher Mcd held Troy NY’s first-ever Graffiti Gala. The event proposed to promote creativity and community and they absolutely nailed it. They turned the entire street into an art gallery in a matter of minutes — and watching it go down was absolutely magical.

While society at large used to view graffiti as something that should be painted over or scrubbed off, times have certainly changed. Now, muralists and graffiti artists can make a lot of money covering an empty wall with their delightful work.

There were wooden panels set up along the street so anyone who wanted could participate in the event. People of all ages grabbed their paints, markers, and chalk and got to work. There were DJs to help keep everyone hyped up — and a drum circle to promote healing.

Since the event was such a good time, it is safe to assume they will have another when the weather is right for it again. Let’s certainly hope that is the case.
