In my line of work I get to go to many concerts. To be honest, I should’ve been way more excited to see Taylor Dayne than I originally was. That’s on me. You know? I’ve seen a lot of entertainers from decades past that still put on great shows but they just don’t have it like they used to and that’s totally understandable. It’s still great to see these acts because it’s nostalgic. This was totally not the case at all with Taylor Dayne. If anything I think she’s better than she ever was, she’s the true definition of “aged like fine wine!” I’m not even referring to her looks (although she looks great), I think her voice now is actually better than when she was in her prime. So who’s to say when someone is in their prime anyway?
I’ve been a casual fan since I was a kid but seeing Taylor Dayne live at Troy Savings Bank Music Hall last night changed my level of fandom completely. I am all about Taylor Dayne now! I will literally rock her T-Shirts at a heavy metal show. I am now a huge fan, sorry it took me so long! I also was surprised that I knew every single song that she played (except for one). I thought I might know 2 or 3, nope not the case at all!
Taylor really knows how to put on a show and her band was world class. I also loved the fact that the show wasn’t too long or too short. With short performances people feel ripped off but on the flip side many groups play way too long for a work night concert and it’s exhausting. This set was punchy and it never quit. Honestly, other acts should take a lesson from this. There were no fillers. Every song was just a good as the last. The full set list is below, the show was full of hits.
Troy Savings Bank Music Hall is a seated venue but by the end of the concert, no one was in their seats. “Love Will Lead You Back” was basically the encore. The band wasn’t about to go off stage just to come back. The audience would’ve called for it so why play that game (One More Song)? Also… I’ve seen venues turn the lights on when an encore was definitely going to happen. I never understood that.
My ultimate opinion of Taylor Dayne in concert is that it’s Superbowl Half-Time Show worthy!!! Incredible! I also felt that she is genuinely grateful for everything. Taylor gave everyone an open-invitation to meet her after the show and sign merch!
Last night, I went to bed listening to Taylor Dayne. If all of her hits are this good, I wonder what her B Sides sound like. Originally, I was going to make some kind of Taylor Swift joke but Dayne already handled that from stage. I can’t remember exactly what she said but basically I see it as a passing of the torch from one Taylor to another.
