We connected with DJ Goodlyfe. Here is what he had to say.
RRX: Who are you? I don’t mean philosophically, but for real, who are you? Are you a solo artist? Are you a band? Do you do originals or covers, or both? Tell me one thing few people know about you? (for bands, pick one member, whoever’s got the coolest thing)
DJG: I am the one and only Dj Goodlyfe! Your favorite Djs favorite Dj!! Was previously signed to Conway Entertainment in Colonie ,NY and before that D Street Entertainment in Atlanta! Don’t let the raspy voice fool you! One thing I keep tucked secretly in my arsenal, is the ability to harmonize and sing!!!
RRX: Do you have anything out there for the hordes to consume? What do you have? (most current thing) And do you have any shows or events coming out next month?
DJG: I just recently hosted a mixtape called ” the Compilation” by the artist Lah Lxtty! Besides a plethora of mixes and mixtapes I record monthly, I am currently in the works of hosting a mixtape for the rapper ” Rich Ice”. I have upcoming shows featuring Rowdy Rebel , and Ron G with a whole lot of private parties and club events throughout the year!!
RRX: What was the very first reaction to your music, from the first person to ever hear so much as a practice jam or the demo of your first song?
DJG: A grandmaster DJ, didn’t know that I was a dj but noticed my choice of music. He then simply said I have the gift!!
RRX: Cover art is cool. It shows listeners what the artist thinks the album is all about. Because music can be felt visually. If you had to give the public a visual image that you think they would see and just “get” your groove right away, what would it be?
DJG: A picture of New Years Eve In Times Square when the ball drops!!!
RRX: You sing or you rap, you play guitar, play drums, what have you, you have no doubt struggled to learn music. Something probably tripped you up. What was it for each of you? What did you have to overcome (bands, pick a member)?
DJG: I have been and still am mastering the complex science of turn tablism and scratching records at an expert level!
RRX: In the universe of music, anything can happen. Bizarro doppelgangers can walk down the street in feather boas. Who would be your bizarro musical nemesis and why?
DJG: David Guetta, not because if the differences but because of the similarities
RRX: Stereotypes are a bitch. I mean, aside from the really bad ones, you have cultural stereotypes about everything, including music. Would do you think is the stereotype for the music you play, and how far are you away from it?
DJG: A lot of times I am looked at as a stereotype myself when it comes to djing certain events. You can tell that people give me the side eye when I’m doing a high end wedding, because if you went according to my looks you would think that I’m a one dimensional DJ, Until you not only hear, but see me play. The way I read and interact with a crowd is nothing short of miraculous.
