Steve Vai, Danny Carey, Adrian Belew, and Tony Levin

Nothing br=eats the birth of a musical supergroup. So when Steve Vai, Adrian Belew, Tony Levin, and Tool drummer Danny Carey coming together to form a new band, love is around the corner. It’s called Beat, and it will perform King Crimson songs. What makes this even better is that the band was announced by King Crimson d==founder and frontman Robert Fripp.

It wasn’t a total surprise; there were hints. On the Ultimate Guitar’s “On the Record” podcast, Vai said, “I’ve got something I’m doing in the fall that I can’t really announce yet, but it’ll be a great show also.” Lorde recorded it for A24’s Stop Making Sense tribute album

Angel Olsen, Lorde

Today is a day of covers for NYC punk and proto punk as performers Angel Olsen and Lorde have put out covers. First we have the Talking Heads “Take Me to the River” performed by Lords. Next is Lou Reed/Velvet Underground’s “I Can’t Stand It,” performed by Olsen with Maxim Ludwig.

“Take Me to the River” is a song first written by Al Green. And Olsen had this to say to Brooklyn Vegan, “Lou Reed is my earliest influence, my introduction to punk rock. This song was a great opportunity to creatively work with Maxim.” Maxim adds, “Lou Reed is why I write songs, why I read books, and why I stand up for myself.”

AC/DC

AC/DC has a tour coming up called “Power Up.” It has already been a smashing success, selling 1.5 million tickets in one day. Chris Dalston, co-head of International touring for CAA, said to Blabbermouth, : “We believed it was going to be one of the biggest tours ever, but you just never know until you put tickets on sale. It’s like Christmas the night before we went on sale. You can’t sleep, you’re nervous. I woke up at 2:30 or 3 in the morning and Europe had already opened — and we’d sold out some of the shows already. They sold 1.5 million tickets in one day. … It’s staggering and it gives you great faith because they’re very particular in how they conduct their business. They don’t do VIP. They don’t do dynamic ticket pricing. They never want to hear fans complaining about ticket prices being too high. There’s also a point where we have to push it a little bit because otherwise they couldn’t afford to tour — especially when they’re playing one day on, three days off. … Obviously the goal is to hopefully have them continue if they enjoy it and it works well … to try to keep them out in ’25, ’26, ’27, however long they want to go, but we gotta get through Europe first.
