Schism: Tool Tribute Band w/ Seattle Sons, Putnam Place, Albany, 8pm-12am
Not many cover or tribute bands out there ever attempt to engage in the raw talent, mysticism, math and magic that is TOOL, but if you talk to four brave souls from New York City (Keith Williams- Guitar, Angelo Rivera- Vocals, Pierson Milazzo- Bass, Donald Pusateri- Drums) their love and passion for this music led them to form SCHISM, New York City’s premier TOOL tribute band.
“We started this back in 2001, after seeing TOOL at Hammerstein Ballroom. We simply loved the music and wanted to share it live with other TOOL minded fans” says SCHISM guitarist Keith Williams.

Driftwood Album Release Party with special guests Black Mountain Symphony, Lark Hall, Albany, 8pm
The title track and first single from Driftwood’s forthcoming spring 2024 album,
“December Last Call” is out everywhere 11/10. Penned by guitarist-songwriter
Joe Kollar, the track transports the listener to the middle of a rowdy, college
dive bar. “December’s a drinking song, so much so I don’t remember writing it.” After two years of starts and stops, a few pauses from Covid, one scrappedattempt and lots of late nights in the studio, the upstate New York folkstersfinally wrapped up recording sessions for “December Last Call” this Fall.
Recorded in the basement studio of Kollar’s parents’ upstate home, the albumconcept was simple: Keep it organic. “We grew up making music in that basement, after recording our last album with a well-known producer in an out-of-town studio, it felt so right to be back down there, growing the tracks from scratch on our own,” says guitarist-songwriter Dan Forsyth. The album is due out in Spring 2024 and is definitely Driftwood’s most explorative effort yet. From full on, electric guitar-laden rock tracks to barren, stripped down, acoustic ballads, the palette is big but the offerings are sincere and purposeful. “These songs are a snapshot of us over the last few years. They are a reflection on life, past, present and future. They portray a group of great friends who have continued to evolve together and separately over more than 15 years,” says violinist Claire Byrne.
Dead-Zep ft: Rainbow Full of Sound, Putnam Place, Saratoga Springs, 9pm-12:30pm
It’s somewhat boggling to think of Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Page swapping riffs – the beatific Buddha and the slashing, edgy Page. But as veteran player of Grateful Dead music Waynard Scheller noticed one night, the chords of the Dead anthem “St. Stephen” merged seamlessly into “Whole Lotta Love.” Then he sat down and found lots of pairs of songs that fit together. And thus was born “Dead-Zep,” a new band formed from his Rainbow Full of Love to mash up the two repertoires.
Kat Wright Trio, Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs, 4pm-6pm
Kat Wright, whose voice is both sultry and dynamic, delicate yet powerful; gritty but highly emotive and nuanced, has been described as “a young Bonnie Raitt meets Amy Winehouse.” Add to that voice enough stage presence to tame lions, and the combination of feline femininity proves immediately enchanting. There’s soul flowing in and out of her rock & roll with a serpentine seduction. Some of soul music’s sweet, grand dames belt, shout, seethe, and succumb, while Wright sings gently like a heartache’s apology. It’s funky in spots and beautiful all over. And it hurts a little … like it should.

ESYO Symphony Orchestra featuring Concerto Competition Winner, Troy Music Savings Hall, Troy, 3pm
Breathe: Resonance and Restraint: Tonight, our program explores the theme of “Breathe: Resonance and Restraint,” reflecting on the subtle interplay between collective celebration and individual struggle in artistic expression. From Jessie Montgomery’s “Hymn For Everyone,” where voices and instruments intertwine in a shared breath of unity, to Paul Creston’s “Concertino” for marimba and orchestra, with its intimate dialogue between soloist and ensemble, and finally, to Dmitri Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, where each note carries the weight of artistic defiance, we delve into the essence of creative breath. Montgomery’s “Hymn For Everyone” lays the groundwork for our exploration, capturing the essence of collective unity and shared song with grace. Through dynamic interplay, the music evokes a communal breath, celebrating the joy of harmony in quiet resonance. Creston’s “Concertino” shifts our focus to individual expression, with the marimba engaging in a delicate dance with the orchestra. Here, breath takes on a singular, intimate quality, reflecting the nuanced experience of self-expression within the collective symphony. In Shostakovich’s Symphony No. 5, we confront the sobering reality of artistic struggle under oppressive conditions. Each note bears the weight of defiance, encapsulating the tension between creative freedom and external constraints where the very act of artistic breath is challenged. Shostakovich’s work serves as a poignant reminder of the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity. In “Breathe: Resonance and Restraint,” we invite you to explore the quiet resonance of collective unity, the intimate dance of individual expression, and the enduring power of artistic defiance. As we navigate this musical journey, may the echoes of shared celebration and quiet perseverance linger, reminding us of the timeless pursuit of artistic expression.

Billboard hailed his playing as “…gutbucket blues, joyous gospel, Rolling Stones-style rock crunch, and aching R&B. Walker’s guitar playing is fine and fierce.” NPR described Joe Louis Walker as “a legendary boundary-pushing icon of modern blues.” A brilliantly lyrical guitarist, soulful singer, and prolific songwriter, Walker just might bring the house down.
