Jaelyn – Interview – Thanks for Asking! – by Liam Sweeny.
We connected with performer Jaelyn. This is what she had to say.
RRX: Every artist’s first song is a milestone. But so is the latest song. Describe the first song/album you recorded, and also the latest song/album you recorded; what are the differences?
JAELYN: when I wrote the first song on the first album I had no idea really where it was going. I was just writing what came to my head no matter what it was. Now, after learning so much and growing both musically and emotionally over the last three years, I can say everything has improved ten fold.
RRX: Music genres are difficult for some artists. Some strictly adhere; others not so much. What is your perspective on the genre you play, or the genres you hover around?
JAELYN: We have a fairly unique sound. I’ve heard many people say they can’t really pin it down. Some might say post hardcore when others would say metalcore. All I know is I love writing melodic metal with a hard edge at times. It’s what I grew up on and it’s just built into me.
RRX: What was the very first reaction to your music, from the first person to ever hear so much as a practice jam or the demo of your first song?
JAELYN: I was terrified letting anyone hear the things I wrote on my own. I had never sang in a band before besides some simple back ups. I doubted I could pull off being the main singer. I was positive they weren’t good enough for public consumption but I had several friends that pushed those thoughts away for me and helped me come out of my shell. It was nothing but positive reinforcement after that.
RRX: What would you like fans to know before they come to see you play?
JAELYN: We are an LGBTQIA positive band. We do not allow hate or prejudice of any kind anywhere near us. Also, no one is turned away at our shows for the lack of ability to pay. If someone truly wants to come to the show to see us but doesn’t have the cover charge, all they need do is private message us and I will get them in for free every time. We want them not their money.
RRX: I know when pitching it helps to tell someone it’s “this meets that.” So let’s try that with you. If you had to give me two bands that meet each other in your sound, what are those bands? More than two bands?
JAELYN: I guess I would have to say Judas Priest meets Thrice and had a baby with Coheed and Cambria.
RRX: Let’s talk about your next project, your next few. Just not the ones you’re working on now. The ones you have your eyes on for the future. What’s coming to us?
JAELYN: Honestly all of our works tell a long space opera story. All of the songs tell parts of an epic saga that I created. The first album tells the beginning of the story and how we got started. That’s why it is aptly entitled “We Begin.” The next album which will be coming out in October of 2024, will tell the next part of the story and so on. There will also be comic books coming out along with each new album giving visuals for the songs and story applying faces to the names you will hear throughout.
