Massive Attack
The band Massive Attack will be attending the III Points Festival in Miami in October and have developed an East Coast tour around the event. They haven’t played here since 2019, with their Mezzanine XXI tour. There are four other East Coast dates, part of their Fall 2024 tour. The other dates are in the UK and Europe.
Massive Attack puts on a very visual, innovative, and thought-provoking show. They had this to say of the current tour: “Our new live show marks the most transgressive leap in the collaboration between 3D x United Visual Artists since 2003. By reverse engineering algorithms to expose content anomalies & recursive feedback loops, we seek to provoke a dialogue on the broken dream of the confident, empowered individual ‘self’, in the context of the global collapse of liberal democracies.”

Reeves Gabrels
David Bowie- and The Cure guitarist Reeves Gabrels is about as serious a player as they come. His passionate playing has enticed generations of music lovers, and he has broadcast pure emotion on pylons of nickel wound string. He has opinions of music like everybody else, and he has strong opinions on guitar effects; he is ‘pro.’
Guitar Player magazine recently published five tips from Gabrels on the importance and use of effects pedals. We will list the tips, and for the elaboration of each tip, go to the original article.
Reeves Gabrel’s Effects Tips
- Your guitar and amp are one instrument.
- Look for effects and sound processing not made for the guitar.
- Really get to know your effects.
- A rant: effects aren’t expressive enough. And where are the innovations?
- Anything can be an effect. If you don’t mind looking silly.
