INTERVIEW: Chris Envy – Owner, Dynasty Wrestling

The Dynasty is an independent wrestling promotion that has shows at various locations across the state, including right here in the Capital District. With athletic wrestlers and riveting storylines, The Dynasty brings top notch matches right to our backyard. What really makes The Dynasty special is how close you can get to the action. For a fraction of the price of a big name ticket you can see matches with just as good of a projection value right in your face. The wrestlers interact with the crowd in a way that makes the shows just that much more enjoyable. We caught up with the owner of The Dynasty, Chris Envy. He shares with us some inside info on what makes The Dynasty tick!

RadioradioX:Can you tell us a little about yourself and how you came up with The Dynasty?

Chris Envy: I became a wrestler in 2002, in Littleton CO and over the next few years, traveled all over. I saw some really good things, and some really bad things. Honestly I was just tired of having to travel 3+ hours for the better shows, and felt we needed something great locally. A place where my friends and family could see me perform. In 2007, my best friend Tom Ugly and myself held a fundraiser event in Coxsackie, NY. We didn’t know of the legalities of it, we just knew we wanted to run an event and raise money. So we rented a ring and did what we could. In 2013, we decided to do it again, but for REAL. We found out what it took to do it, and found ways to make it happen. It was so fun collaborating and bringing in our friends to perform.

RRX: When do you first discover your love of pro wrestling?

CE: Watching wrestling cartoons at my grandmother’s house as a kid, then Saturday morning wrestling, and eventually, Wrestlemania 5. Warrior vs Hogan!

RRX: What era of mainstream wrestling is your favorite?

CE: I’d say early ’90s, before the Attitude era, or late ’90s WCW, but looking back, man – that stuff didn’t age well. Today’s WWE, TNA, and NXT are top notch.

RRX: What wrestlers would you say have been the most influential on you and why?

CE: HBK, Bret Hart, Rey Mysterio (WCW version) because they were smaller guys that got over in the land of giants.

RRX: What do you want people to take away from an event with The Dynasty?

CE: Fun, exciting, full of surprises. A great night out for the entire family. A destination event to look forward to. A pillar of the local communities.

RRX: Your son Maverick is a big part of The Dynasty. How did he first start to get involved and what’s it like to get to work with him?

CE: Maverick grew up with his dad away on weekends wrestling; he rarely got to see me perform. So honestly, I’m surprised he loves it now. He started watching clips on IG of the bloodline angle two years ago and loved the long term storytelling and how it felt real. It’s a rare trait in today’s wrestling. The kid has a creative mind and a big heart, but I’m not really happy that he’s trying to get physically involved with the trained, journeymen wrestlers. To be blunt, Foxx will destroy him and it makes me nervous, because I’m not medically cleared to be able to do much about it.

RRX: Last month we were treated to Return to Neverland as the official show for the International Pro Wrestling Hall of Fame. How did The Dynasty get to partner with them?

CE: The Hall of Fame has done shows the past few years under Seth Turner, and I always felt slighted by not being invited to be a part of it when we were the ONLY wrestling company for a few years locally. But I get it, we weren’t around for a few years when I moved to SC. I was honored when Rita and Seth asked.

RRX: Maverick and yourself have an ongoing fire with Foxx Vinyer. Can you tell us about how that came about?

CE: Foxx is just a pretentious prick. He only cares about himself and the spotlight, so I’m honestly not surprised. He thinks because I’ve known him the longest, he should be in the title picture, but I don’t book events like that. I don’t book friends, I don’t book drama. I book quality wrestlers that fans will react to. He’s beat EVERYONE at Dynasty, but his ego and actions don’t justify qualities I want in a Champion representing our company.

RRX: Do you have any plans to get retribution for his attacks on your son?

CE: I’d love to just fire him and be done, but we all know locally, Foxx is the “it” guy. He’s one of the top wrestlers, most experienced people on the card, and like it or not, he gets reactions. People pay to see him. So if there’s money to be made, this is a business after all, I have to give him a platform.

RRX: Where can people connect with The Dynasty and keep track of the latest news and events?

CE: We have two upcoming dates as of now, with six or seven planned for 2025. Our next event is on December 14th at the Cairo-Durham High School. It’s a fundraiser for the music department and we have some really cool things planned. Then we return home to Empire Live in Albany for “Heavy is the Crown” on February 22. I’m excited for the future of this company.
