P.J. Harvey
For the second season of the Apple TV+ series Bad Sisters, artist PJ Harvey is covering Joy Division’s “Love Will Tear Us Apart.” It was recorded with composer Tim Phillips, and Harvey and Phillips also collaborated on the score, as well as a cover of Leonard Cohen’s “Who by Fire” for season one, which was also the show’s opening theme. And in 2022, they paired up to cover the traditional folk song “Run On.”
Harvey recently completed her first North American tour in seven years. Season 2 of Bad Sisters premiered on November 13th.
Coachella
Once again, the music festival Coachella is here, and the 2025 lineup has been released. Lady Gaga, Green Day, and Post Malone are headlining, and the set is “designs the desert” by Travis Scott.
Lady Gaga had previously headlined in 2017, and Post Malone had been at Coachella in 2018. This is Green Day’s debut at the festival. An extra treat will be the original lineup of The Misfits, including Glenn Danzig.
Billed below the main headliners are Circle Jerks, Jimmy Eat World, Amyl and the Sniffers, Speed, GEL, Viagra Boys, and Vs Self. Charli XCX will be in the line-up right below Green Day, and may end up doing better than the headlines, if Coachella’s reception of legacy headliners holds true.
The Mekons
Punk/Indie band the Mekons have just shared their first single, “You’re Not Singing Anymore” to Fire Records, their new label, and are in top shape. Of the single, they said, “You’re Not Singing Anymore” finds the band in fine, anthemic, twangy form. The band say, “We were recording in Valencia, where General Franco drove democracy into the sea and somehow it was agreed that the horror must never be mentioned again.”
They are putting the single out with a 2025 tour. The American leg will kick off in the summer, and will have two NYC stops: NYC’s Bowery Ballroom on July 17 and Jersey City’s White Eagle Hall on July 18.
