Pink Floyd
Pink Floyd’s iconic 1972 concert film Live at Pompeii is being re-released as a 4k remaster. It has been recreated and restored by hand from the original 35mm film. They were found almost by happenstance in a can in Pink Floyd’s physical archive.
Lana Topham, Pink Floyd’s Director of Restoration, explained, “The newly restored version presents the first full 90-minute cut, combining the 60-minute source edit of the performance with the additional Abbey Road Studios documentary segments filmed shortly after.”
The audio for the film has been freshly mixed for 5.1 and Dolby Atmos.
The remaster, titled Pink Floyd Live at Pompeii – MCMLXXII will appear in IMAX starting April 24th. The concert was performed in an empty amphitheater in Pompeii in 1971.
Billy Corgan
On an episode of Joe Rogan’s podcast, Smashing Pumpkin’s frontman Billy Corgan opined that the band was the most misunderstood band in rock ‘n roll. “I think it has a lot to do with the issues of Gen X,” he said. “and it has a lot to do with a relationship that I set into motion with the media when I was a very young person, playing kind of a funny game — like doing my own my own version of Andy Kaufman or Bob Zmuda. Because I thought it was all shitty, so I was just like, ‘I’m just going to play with this like a toy because I think it’s kind of funny.’”
He continued. “I didn’t realize that the coming culture was going to kind of almost be attracted to people who are willing to immolate themselves on the public stage. Most people who are attracted to fame, they want to run towards the the shiny part of it. I was attracted to the non-shiny part, which is, ‘Okay, I’ll light myself on fire and let’s see what happens,’ or ‘I’ll light you on fire and let’s see what happens.’
The Smashing Pumpkins will be going on a UK/European tour over the summer. Tickets are on sale now.
