Ginger Geezus Brings the Gospel of Rock to Troy
Words and Photography by Nate Black.
On July 9th, the mighty Ginger Geezus lit up the stage at Rockin’ on the River in downtown Troy. They didn’t just play music; they delivered a full-blown sermon in blues, rock, and red-white-and-booze energy.
Lead singer Matty D came armed with a golden KING goblet, sunglasses to block out any haters, a shirt that may or may not have been alive, and enough charisma to charge your phone. Between songs, he cracked jokes, sipped whatever magical potion was in that cup, and kept the crowd fired up like a Southern tent revival.
The band’s sound hit that sweet spot between gritty blues and rowdy rock, and the crowd responded with dancing, yelling, and some truly passionate air-guitar. The guitarist shredded like a wizard from another dimension, while the bassist, repping Dr. Teeth and the Electric Mayhem, laid down funky grooves with a face that said, “I’m in it and I love it.”
From first note to final stomp, Ginger Geezus didn’t just perform, they converted. If you missed it, repent and mark your calendar for their next appearance.
