When Radio Had a Heartbeat

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y., August 9, 2025 – Once upon a time, radio had a pulse — and you could feel it.

DJs weren’t just voices on the airwaves — they were part of our neighborhoods. They shared stories about the coffee shop down the street, announced the charity car wash in the school parking lot, and introduced the new band playing at the bar on Friday night. They played the songs that became part of our lives, took calls from listeners, swapped jokes, and sometimes pulled a stunt or two just for the fun of it.

This week, I had the honor of photographing the PYX 106 reunion — a day when those voices returned, not through the speakers, but in person. For one afternoon, the familiar laughter, camaraderie, and energy that once filled our radios filled the room instead.

Meeting the people behind those voices was like hearing your favorite song again — instantly familiar, instantly joyful. From the on-air personalities to the behind-the-scenes crew, everyone brought back the spark that made PYX 106 such a vibrant part of our lives.

The event was organized by Gary Vito Locatelli — known to listeners as Uncle Vito — who, along with a team of friends, created a day full of laughter, stories, and warm reunions.

It was more than just a gathering — it was a reminder of the music, friendships, and moments that became the soundtrack to our lives. The PYX 106 reunion didn’t just celebrate a station; it celebrated the people who made it unforgettable.
