David Bennett Cohen, The Linda, Albany, 8pm-10pm
David Bennett Cohen has been a professional musician for more than 60 years. Best known for his innovative keyboard playing as an original, founding member of the ’60’s Rock band, Country Joe and the Fish, he is an equally accomplished guitar player who has been involved in numerous music scenes throughout his varied career.
Nas, The Palace Theatre, Albany, 8pm
Timeless poet and rhyme-master Nas, delivered his first full-length album Illmatic in 1994. Nas went on to release 14 subsequent albums, 8 of which are multi-platinum and platinum including: Nastradamus, Stillmatic, God’s Son, and Street’s Disciple. With 16 GRAMMY nominations, Nas released King’s Disease in 2020, giving Nas his first ever GRAMMY win for “Best Rap Album,” and released King’s Disease II, a sequel to the GRAMMY Award winning album, produced by Nas and Hit-Boy. Most recently, Nas released the third installment of the King’s Disease series. With no features, King’s Disease III was produced by Hit-Boy and executive produced by Nas and Hit-Boy. Most recently, Nas and Hit-Boy released Magic 3, featuring 15 brand new tracks, also marking the final chapter of the legendary run for the prolific rapper-producer duo. Magic 3 serves as the duo’s sixth album together in the last 3 years and serves as the third installment to the Magic series.

Rock Camp is back for another jamming year! Join us at Universal Preservation Hall for a summer full of rock and roll. Strengthen your skills, learn new techniques and jam out with other talented musicians from the Capital Region. This two-week program provides students with a space to hone their talents and express themselves creatively. Participate in workshops on songwriting to booking a gig and the importance of playing as a group that prep you for the hottest performance of the summer at the Great Hall at UPH.

Glen David Andrews, a native son and a beloved musician of New Orleans, is a warrior for cultural preservation at a time when indigenous traditions are being threatened in the city. His commanding voice and fierce trombone sound – both a powerful, emotional, and resonant blend of smoothness and grit – as well as his disarmingly honest manner provide a musical experience that never fails to meet the moment.

Cutting his teeth as the house manager at the iconic Saratoga Springs listening room Caffe Lena, Reese Fulmer has emerged “with a poet’s sensibility rich with great storytelling, imagery and a healthy dose of irony.” The 2023 and 2024 Americana Artist of the Year at the Thomas Edison Music Awards, Reese and his band are among the fastest-rising groups in the Capital Region. With a rotating cast of top players and a broad and dynamic body of work, their live performances are always fresh and full of joy.
HRMM presents Seven Sentinels: Lighthouses of the Hudson River, The Linda, Albany, 1pm-3pm
Of the dozens of lighthouses and lights that once dotted the Hudson River, only seven remain. This iconic American river, at the heart of the rise of New York City and westward expansion into the interior of the continent, was also a transportation super highway long before automobiles were invented. Throughout it all, the lighthouses kept watch, guarding the safety of the Hudson’s waterborne traffic.

Tom Chapin, Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs, 8pm-10pm
In a career that spans six decades, 27 albums and three Grammy awards, Hudson Valley Troubadour Tom Chapin has covered an incredible amount of creative ground. In addition to his work as a recording artist, concert performer, storyteller and activist, he’s performed on Broadway and worked extensively in television, radio and film. As a music-maker, Chapin maintains two long and productive parallel careers, both as a respected contemporary folk artist and as a pioneer in the field of children’s music. During the height of the Covid shutdowns, Tom and his daughters, The Chapin Sisters, streamed 200 live concerts under the moniker “Mornings with Papa Tom.”

Grammy award winner, guitarist and singer John Pizzarelli has been hailed by the Boston Globe for “reinvigorating the Great American Songbook and re-popularizing jazz.” Established as one of the prime contemporary interpreters of the Great American Songbook, Pizzarelli has expanded that repertoire by including the music of Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Tom Waits, Antônio Carlos Jobim and the Beatles. In addition to being a bandleader and solo performer, Pizzarelli has been a special guest on recordings for major pop names such as Natalie Cole, Kristin Chenoweth, Tom Wopat, Rickie Lee Jones and Dave Van Ronk, as well as leading jazz artists such as Rosemary Clooney, Ruby Braff, Johnny Frigo, Buddy DeFranco, Harry Allen and, of course, his father Bucky Pizzarelli.
