Week Two: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “The Things We Throw Away”

This is Jesse Sample. Different things have different levels of importance. Some things in life are sacred and need special treatment and some things need to be thrown out in a dumpster. Relationships with good people and time spent in pursuit of knowledge are things that nurture. Grudges, petty disputes, and old fears are trash and should be disposed of accordingly.

I was working on this week’s project and my godson wanted a little help with his homework and to go out for tacos. These things belong in the keep pile. I let out a resounding “Yes.” Earlier, I was struggling in a conversation and I was tying my identity to its outcome. This belongs in the trash pile. Internally, I committed to “No” and I discarded it like a greasy bag that I no longer needed to hold delicious burgers.

We all have made mistakes and will make them in the future when it comes to the evaluation of the things we keep or throw out . Let’s not beat ourselves up. Regret belongs in the trash pile.
