Saturday January 8th at Pauly’s Hotel in Albany, a cancer benefit was held with music from veteran party rockers Harmony Rocks and newcomers Rockslide.
Harmony Rocks is a 5 piece local band that plays an array of 60s to 90s music, genres include rock, country and blues. A talented band fronted by Norm Fraim with a diverse and eclectic range from Nick Gilder to Sublime. They displayed great energy in songs like Basket Case and My Own Worst Enemy as well as 60’s And 70’s classics, such as Tall Cool Woman, Some Kind of Wonderful and Smokin’ In The Boys Room. These brought back youthful sonic memories for me. Harmony Rocks closed out a 12 song set with Tom Petty’s American Girl.
They were followed by the debut of Rockslide, who only played out once prior at the Rustic Barn Open Mic.Formed in 2019 by Father and Son team Patrick and Joshua Norris and then later joined by frontman Jorel Spain in mid 2021. Alex Lenkiewicz is the head you see peaking out behind the drums and he is a very tight percussionist.
They are led by journeyman Patrick Norris an accomplished lead axman who is also an engineer.
They played a marathon 19 song set that started with Sunshine Of  Your Love And White Room.
Come Together and  Fortunate Son were done very well vocally.
Weezer , The Offspring and other Alt Rock songs such as Low and Kryptonite were also on the set.
Patrick Norris played some nice licks on Running With The Devil and Cat Scratch Fever.
The last song was an enthusiastic version of Nirvanas Smells Like Teen Spirit.
It was a great debut petformance by Rockslide , who certainly will be a band to see in 2022!
Pauly’s is an excellent venue with a great history, the sound was great (thanks Shane) and the staff are very friendly!
