A Man Named Cash, Lark Hall, Albany, 8pm

“A Man Named Cash – A Tribute to The Man in Black” is the premier tribute to the music and lives of Johnny Cash and June Carter cash starring Eric Hofmanis and Megan Houde.

Recognized by Cash fans as one of the most honest and true representations of Johnny Cash live in concert, join Eric as he takes you on an exciting musical journey through the music and legacy of Johnny Cash – spanning nearly 50 years of music from his earliest days at Sun Recording in the 1950’s through his final days and musical rebirth with American Recordings in the 2000’s. Eric’s astonishingly deep voice and even deeper embodiment of Cash’s character often has audiences utterly transfixed in their seats – performing classics as varied as his first 1956 Billboard #1 hit “I Walk The Line” to the 2004 Grammy Award winning ‘Hurt.’

Eric is joined by Megan Houde (as June Carter) who’s natural presence alone adds an essential brightness to The Man In Black. The two’s on stage chemistry (much like the real Cash and Carter) is undeniable, at times unpredictable and genuinely charming and uplifting. The room does indeed LIGHT UP each time Megan walks on stage though out each performance – bringing with her the perfect embodiment of hope, joy, love and lightheartedness that Cash’s music often spoke of as what was missing in the world. Backed by the ‘Adirondack Four’ band featuring guitarist Scotty Mac – who’s incredible ability to recreated the guitar stylings of Luther Perkins, Bob Wootton and Carl Perkins all in one – makes “A Man Named Cash” an absolutely one of a kind musical experience and a tribute to the music of Johnny Cash as never seen before.

Curtis Stigers, Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs, 8pm-10pm

A jazz man at heart, singer/songwriter Curtis Stigers is reimagining his classic hits in a distinctly different way than originally recorded

Known for his smooth, ballad-heavy style, vocalist Curtis Stigers has garnered commercial success straddling the line between traditional jazz crooner, pop artist, and R&B singer. But despite his degree of commercial success Stigers has always been, and remains, a jazz man at heart. Stigers has had several hit singles. He’s released nine critically-acclaimed, award-winning jazz albums. He’s played for presidents and princes and he’s appeared in two Seth MacFarlane movies about a foul-mouthed cuddly bear called Ted. He’s recorded thirteen studio albums and a live album singing Sinatra songs with a big band from Denmark. He’s toured with symphony orchestras, written songs with Carole King and duetted with Al Green, Shawn Colvin and Tom Jones. The New York Times calls Stigers an “Inspired marriage of visceral clout and intellectual savvy,” while the London Sunday Times remarks “I cannot think of another vocalist who creates such an exuberant combination of bebop artistry and raw emotion.”

Now, 30 years after his debut, Stigers is having fun with old and new material alike. His 2022 release, This Life, sees Stigers revisit his hits with reimagined versions of classic songs including “I Wonder Why,” “You’re All That Matters To Me,” (What’s So Funny ’Bout) Peace, Love, And Understanding” and more. “I don’t tend to look back much, musically speaking.” Stigers states in the liner notes to the album. “However, this time I set out with a plan to record songs from my previous twelve studio albums that I now play live in concert in a distinctly different way than I recorded them originally. Songs and arrangements grow and evolve from their recorded versions over time, as we play them again and again for audiences.” Stigers continues, “My songs have changed and grown as they’ve gotten older, just like I have.”

Kieran Kane & Rayna Gellert, Caffe Lena, Saratoga Springs, 8pm-10pm

Two celebrated Americana singer/songwriters unite as kindred spirits in roots-oriented folk songs, gorgeous melodies and vocal harmonies

Kane and Gellert first met, fittingly, at San Francisco’s celebrated Hardly Strictly Bluegrass Festival, which led to their cowriting songs for Kane’s solo album Unguarded Moments. They joined forces again for Gellert’s Workin’s Too Hard, which they also co-produced. Then in 2018, they released their first duo album, The Ledges, and followed up quickly with When the Sun Goes Down in 2019. Now, in 2022, this “unlikely musical couple” have released The Flowers That Bloom in Spring, which finds them digging deeper into their exploration of minimalist writing and recording.

Kieran Kane’s seminal work in The O’Kanes and Kane Welch Kaplin, as well as co-founding the independent label Dead Reckoning Records, laid the foundation for the contemporary world of Americana music. A successful solo artist, collaborator, and songwriter (with songs recorded by Alan Jackson, John Prine, Emmylou Harris, and many more), Kieran is a musician’s musician: his playing is always understated, always groove-oriented, and always serving the song. Rayna Gellert is a preternaturally gifted songwriter. She’s seen farther into the old songs than most. Growing up in a musical family, she turned to Appalachian old-time music at a young age, becoming a prodigious fiddler and leading a new revival of American stringband music through her work with the acclaimed roots band Uncle Earl. An in-demand collaborator, she has toured and recorded with artists such as Scott Miller, Abigail Washburn, Toubab Krewe, and Robyn Hitchcock. Fans of either artist will recognize the musical kindred-spiritedness in their restrained and roots-oriented approach to both songs and arrangements.

Folk Alley describes them this way: “…together the two have found an interesting common ground that’s one part Woody Guthrie-esque ruminations on the modern world and one part transcendent stringband roots … New songs, old songs, fiddle tunes, it’s all tossed together here in an overarching quest to find an authentic expression from two traditional masters brought together.” One fan proclaims: “Mind numbingly good. That harmony floored me from the start!
