August 24, 2023 — On September 23, Master Roots Rockers, The Weight Band, will perform at The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall as part of their 2023 Tour celebrating their tenth anniversary. They will be playing a mix of original songs from their latest album, Shines Like Gold, and classic hits by The Band, plus a unique acoustic set. Showtime is 8:00 pm.
The Weight Band originated in 2013 inside the famed Woodstock barn of music icon Levon Helm. Fronted by acclaimed guitarist Jim Weider, a 15-year former member of The Band and the Levon Helm Band, Weider was inspired by Helm to carry on the musical legacy of the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame group. Weider, a Woodstock native, served as The Band’s lead guitarist from 1985-2000, following Robbie Robertson’s departure. In the late 00s, he replaced Jimmy Vivino in the Levon Helm Band.
The Weight Band is composed of Jim Weider (The Band, The Levon Helm Band, and Jim Weider Band), keyboardist Brian Mitchell (Levon Helm’s Midnight Ramble Band), bassist Albert Rogers (Jim Weider Band, Jimmy Vivino), drummer Michael Bram (Jason Mraz) and keyboardist Matt Zeiner (Dickey Betts).
On their latest album, Shines Like Gold, The Weight Band presents a dynamic set of classic Americana that draws upon roadhouse rock, funky swamp pop, blues, country soul, and folk music. The veteran quintet shares a deep appreciation and knowledge for this music, which Weider describes as the “Woodstock Sound.”
Shines Like Gold has been hailed by critics, including Guitar Player Magazine, who cited, “..with their eclectic blend of blues, soul, and roots-rock, guitarist Jim Weider and Co are back with a barnstorming new album.” Rock & Blues Muse hailed, “Weider and the rest of the group are roots-rock masters who will elevate the state of anyone fortunate enough to hear these songs. The Weight Band’s second studio album, Shines Like Gold, follows their 2018 debut album, World Gone Mad. Billboard praised World Gone Mad as “excellent,” Goldmine Magazine recognized it as one of the year’s best indie albums.
