Tool’s Ideas

If you enjoyed Tool’s 2019 album, “Fear Innoculum,” you’re going to like what they’re going to come out with next… but you’re going to have to wait for it. Bassist Justin Chancellor, in a podcast, was asked about a follow-up album, and he responded by saying, “We’ve got many ideas cooking. We haven’t recorded anything yet. But we’re quite busy until — I guess until after the spring of next year touring. So once that’s done, we’re gonna get back in the studio and knuckle down and put some of it together. We’ve already had a few pretty decent sessions of writing. So we’ve got the ingredients in place. We’ve just gotta really bang it out and spend that time when we’re not touring.”

So they got ideas. They even have some demo-level stuff, but nothing Tool would put out there. So, folks, it’s going to be a little while.

Greatest Metal Albums

When it comes to metal albums, there are a lot out there. Kind of like chili recipes. And everyone thinks the one they found in the record store bin or the Spotify playlist is the best one (metal albums, not chili recipes, though you might find some old grandmother on Spotify cranking out a Texas no-bean two-step.)

Spin recently put together a list of the “Best Metal Albums.” See, we’re just going to give you this list so you don’t hit our inbox when you have grievances over the Top Ten. We’re just the messenger, folks.

Go to the list…

The Fury of Guided By Voices

It’s good to see a prolific band. You know they’re burning the wick at both ends or running from their demons or maybe both and flickin’ melted wax at the Gates of Hell. In the case of Guided By Voices, they just released Nowhere to Go But Up, their third album in a year. It’s getting it’s official birth certificate on November 24th. If you’d like to hear the first single, “For the Home,” (of course you would,) click here.

Christian Witkins and Hip Hop

One last little slice of the Jukebox here. This isn’t a story per se, but Spin has a piece on Christian Witkin, an amazing photographer whose work appeared in Vogue, Vanity Fair, The Face and, of course, SPIN. The latter has a nifty article on Witkin’s time photographing hip hop artists and rappers in the 90s and beyond, with a few choice photos. Go to Spin for that.
