The Creative License Theater Collective is currently in rehearsals for their upcoming production of Adam Rapp’s hit Broadway play “The Sound Inside”, coming November 17th to the historic Cohoes Music Hall. The production marks the opening of the company’s 3rd season as the resident non-musical theater company at the Music Hall and their tenth year as a collective..

When Bella Baird, an isolated creative writing professor at Yale, begins to mentor a brilliant but enigmatic student named Christopher, the two form an unexpectedly intense bond. As their lives and the stories they tell about themselves become intertwined in unpredictable ways, one makes a surprising request of the other that neither knows if they can fulfill. Brimming with suspense, Rapp’s riveting play explores the limits of what one person can ask of another.

First premiering in 2018 at the Williamstown Theater Festival, the show quickly transferred to Broadway the following year. Nominated for 6 Tony awards, including a win for actress Mary Louise Parker who played Bella, the New York Times called Adama Rapp’s script “Subliminal” and “Sublime.”

“There’s a great tradition of captivating two character suspense stories in theater,” says the plays director and Creative License co-founder Aaron Holbritter. “It’s almost a genre unto itself, and it’s one I’m a huge fan of. ‘The Sound Inside’ stands as a terrific example. From the moment these characters are introduced, you have a creeping sense that both are headed toward a troublesome predicament. You question who to trust, who’s telling the truth, and just when you think you have a grasp of it, it takes a turn that is both surprising and inevitable.”

Bella, the Yale professor, is played by local actress Colleen Lovett and Russell Roberts plays the student, Christopher. “This show certainly requires two very disciplined and committed actors,” says Producer and company co-founder Casey Polomaine, “and we’ve definitely found that in Colleen and Russell. Their attention to this complex story and the intense chemistry that’s developing between them is compelling to watch.”

“The Sound Inside” will run November 17 – 26 at the Cohoes Music Hall. Friday and Saturday curtains at 7:30pm, Sundays at 2pm. The show runs approximately 90 minutes with no intermission. Visit the Cohoes Music Hall Box Office to purchase tickets, or call the box office at 518-434-0776.
