Timbre Coup – Interview – Thanks for Asking – by Liam Sweeny.

We reached out to Timber Coup for a few words, which we give to you.

RRX: Who are you? Not, like, philosophically, but you know, who are the members of the band, who plays what? Describe yourself in one sentence (it can be a long sentence.)

TC: We are Timbre Coup, A four piece progressive rock group that includes Matt Pickering, Ben Pickering, Dan Gerken, and Andrew Chamberlaine

RRX: Do you have anything out right now that people can enjoy, and if so, what’s the best way for them to get it?

TC: We currently have 4 albums and a live album out on all platforms and the new single “Firestorm” available as well on iTunes, Spotify etc

RRX: I know when pitching it helps to tell someone it’s “this meets that.” So let’s try that with you. If you had to give me two bands that meet each other in your sound, what are those bands? More than two bands?

TC: Our sound is best described as Incubus meets Phish, with strong vocals and long instrumentals included as well.

RRX: We let it out differently when we play music. The happy, sad, good and back; it can all be put out musically. Overall, do you feel better when you sing about the better times, or the worser times? Is there a difference you can describe?

TC: As far as better and worse times I do like to write songs sometimes filled with angst about some of the harder times in life, but we do also have songs that bring you through those times into more uplifting experiences such as “August “and others. As far as my preference I think the angst songs are easier to write personally but I do enjoy songs of hope and triumph as well

RRX: What instrument would you add to the band if you could? Is there anything you are trying to do musically that would be helped with one or more additional players?

TC: As far as an instrument to add to the band, if we could add a full-time synthesizer and keyboard player while I play guitar that would be ideal. But we do play midi equipped guitars so We are able to provide many instruments but sometimes there are more parts than people.

RRX: You sing, you rap, you play guitar, play drums, you have no doubt struggled to learn music. Something probably tripped you up. What was it for each of you? What did you have to overcome?

TC: The biggest thing we have had to overcome as far as staying together as a band has been adding families and other focuses to our lives and still being able to get together and write. Also the challenges of touring and being away from home for weeks at a time in the past was a difficult journey for us but it brought us closer as a band.

RRX: How can people keep up with you? What’s coming up, soon or eventually?

TC: To keep up follow our Social media , Facebook Instagram YouTube etc, we have a show coming up March 21 in Albany at Ophelia’s supporting Jwail live band that includes Natalie Cressman and Micheal Travis from EOTO and String Cheese Incident.
