Sonic Sacrifice – Interview – Thanks for Asking – by Liam Sweeny.
We reached out to the band Sonic Sacrifice to find out the 411.
RRX: Who are you? Not, like, philosophically, but you know, who are the members of the band, who plays what? Describe yourself in one sentence (it can be a long sentence.)
SS: We are Sonic Sacrifice, a hard working musical brotherhood from New York. Members Morgan Smith on Bass guitar and lead vocals, Tom Ayers on Drums/Percussion and vocals and David Smith playing guitar and lead vocals. Incendiary music, hard hitting sounds and heavy vibes with street smart sensibilities, epic riffing, great melody, passion and strength in our songs and performances.
RRX: Do you have anything out right now that people can enjoy, and if so, what’s the best way for them to get it?
SS: Yes we have a ton of our original music available on all streaming platforms, Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon, etc. We are also always writing and coming up with new music, so you never know what we will add, and there’s always our live shows.
RRX: I know when pitching it helps to tell someone it’s “this meets that.” So let’s try that with you. If you had to give me two bands that meet each other in your sound, what are those bands? More than two bands?
SS: Sonic Sacrifice has a varied cross pollenization of influences and sounds. All three members bring a wide range of things to the witches brew of creativity. Rival Sons meets Black Sabbath meets Lenny Kravitz meets the Ramones meets television theme songs meets electrical impulses and brain waves that shoot out of our heads, hands and hearts! We try to take in everything around us.
RRX: We let it out differently when we play music. The happy, sad, good and back; it can all be put out musically. Overall, do you feel better when you sing about the better times, or the worser times? Is there a difference you can describe?
SS: Good, bad, sad, happy, angry, tragic and back again. It can, and will all come out in our songs cathartic and therapeutic, it ultimately comes around and the release of understanding ourselves with these feelings and emotions help to heal and bring us back to our center and somehow make us feel better, alive and to carry on!
RRX: What instrument would you add to the band if you could? Is there anything you are trying to do musically that would be helped with one or more additional players?
SS: We would love to add a second guitar to the band, this would make our live sound even bigger. It is difficult to add a new player and personality to the three guys that have been playing together for years and buy into a mindset and an established brotherhood. We tried recently to add a second guitarist, but unfortunately and unexpectedly our newest brother passed away. The rock n roll gods must have wanted us to remain a trio. Still if the right person came along…
RRX: You sing, you rap, you play guitar, play drums, you have no doubt struggled to learn music. Something probably tripped you up. What was it for each of you? What did you have to overcome?
SS: We all have demons and struggles in life, it’s always something isn’t it? But you have to wake up every day and make the donuts right? It’s what drives us and what makes you step up to the microphone, strap on the guitar or sit behind a drum kit. Our guitarist David has had to deal with some physical issues with his hands, Drummer Tommy has had some personal and private things in his life, that has been a challenge and our bassist Morgan has his own hurdles to handle. A band is a delicate thing. Personalities, life, survival and to remain upright on planet earth is a constant fight. Sonic Sacrifice has been through it all for several years. We face it all together and try to be stronger and make something important to ourselves and for those that want to listen!
RRX: How can people keep up with you? What’s coming up, soon or eventually?
SS: Everyone can keep up with us through all of our social media outlets such as Facebook, Instagram, word of mouth, etc. We are currently in the recording studio working on our new EP titled “New Order of the Golden Dawn”, we are also gearing up for our upcoming show at Putnam Place on Saturday March 30th, definitely don’t wanna miss it! Besides all that we are constantly sharpening ourselves, chasing opportunities and fighting the dragon!
