Cyndi Lauper

Anyone alive in the eighties knows the name Cyndi Lauper. It was as household as Morton salt. Sadly, she has announced a farewell tour. Known for such hits as “True Colors,” “Time After Time,” and “Girls Just Want to Have Fun,” Lauper brought character to a scene that was forever pushing the boundaries of style, and became an inspiration to women everywhere who wanted to get into music.

Lauper won two Grammys in her career. Her tour will start in Montreal and will make its last stop in Chicago, passing through Madison Square Garden in her hometown of New York.

The tour will be joined by a number of performers to be announced, and a documentary on Lauper is airing on Paramount+ called “Let the Canary Sing,” covering her life and times. Tickets became available Tuesday through an artist presale. Today is the general sale on the Live Nation website.

Dweezil Zappa

We tend to think that a musician with a reciognizeable name can simply decide to go on tour and it will happen. But Dweeil Zappa, in his decision to auction off a lot of his gear, explains a truth behind the curtain. He announced that a substantial portion of his gear is up for auction at the online site ‘AnalogR’ and the money he gets he will be using to fud a tour. Zappa told Ultimate Guitar that tours aren’t cheap. Even with a tour that isn’t big, the startup costs can be $200,000. And while the take from a tour can go toward the startup cost of the next tour, Zappa said he hadn’t worked in four years, and the money from his last tour had dried up.

Zappa noted that tours can run $10,000 a day, and don’t turn a profit until they’re finished.
