Donny Osmond – The Palace Theatre – Review – by Klyde Kadiddlehumper.

The Palace Theater – July 3, 2024

Ever watched your entire life flash before your eyes?

I swear, it has now happened to me – twice!  The first time was rather more dramatic.  The second, while not as dramatic, was certainly more entertaining.

Now, for my reader out there (and I know who you are), you are used to seeing this byline for Prog Digest.  Tonight, Prog was not on stage – but Donny Osmond and a serious Vegas show was there with Purple on.

For those asking – why Klyde, why?  Blame it on constant companion whose upcoming birthday was reason enough.  More a Bobby Sherman fan at an age, Donny was more than a substitute.

For nearly 2 hours, the high energy, dance filled and nostalgia laden performance could not do more to entertain.  With a sharp, 5 piece band and 8, count ‘em, 8 dancers/singers it was all Vegas all the time.

Donny started with the title track from his latest album, Starting Over, backed with likely his best known song he wishes he could escape, Puppy Love, this was some night.

Quick – how many albums, solo and with his brothers, has Donny Osmond recorded?  Give up?

65 – just short of one for each year of his life.

Quick moving, weaving in old and new material, plenty of stories and a number of truly touching moments, it’s what a show ought to be.

The middle portion of the show was almost a Donny Osmond stump the band, where Donny took requests for ANY song recorded in the 65 albums mentioned above.  Wake Up Little Susie, sung, of course, to audience member Susie. Love Me For a Reason was a serious tear jerker as he asked if the crew had the video, which was the last video he and his brothers did together – and his performance showed just how much it meant to him.  Damn.

Donny asked the crowd to stand up and dance.  As we all know Klyde Does Not Dance……but CC did.

Perhaps the part that most moved old Klyde (yes, he does have a heart) was the tribute to Andy Williams.  Williams gave Donny and the entire family their biggest boost in the early days.  Moon River with Donny and Andy – well – yeah.  As I said, my entire life……..

Six decades of a show business life, on stage in the fashion most could not only not pull off, let alone make seem effortless.

Constant Companion and Klyde were impressed, happy and completely entertained the entire time.
