Week Thirty-One: Jesse Sample’s Freak of the Week “Song Salad: The Dead Ones”

This is Jesse Sample. There is a time to express. This occasion calls for a suspension of judgement and a nap for your inner editor. There is a time to move ideas in fast succession and truly open yourself to sheer instinct. Instincts that you have been developing you whole your whole life.

This week, I took a little time to shoot from the hip as a writer and a guitarist. I move through 4 or 5 rooms and had short conversations with the ghosts that inhabit them. I express myself without a ton of thought. The goal is about a gut reaction.

My friend, Gloria, was kind enough to invite me to stay in her beautiful home for a couple days on the beach in Massachusetts. And I took a little time to get down and consider what’s going on with me, internally.

I love the part of my artistic life where I edit, retrack, rewrite, refine my work and create something cogent with character. But every once in a while, it’s nice to just go off.
