Glitch in the Matrix – The Weird Side of the Internet – by Liam Sweeny.

I think that the most memorable of thoughts and experiences I’ve had were surrounded by instances where I saw, what any ensconced Gen X’er sees but struggles to believe – the “glitch in the matrix.” That thing that just doesn’t fit in, dances to its own jingle, you know what I mean? So we live in this carefully-constructed world, only by the cracks in the surfaces to we come to the conclusion that reality is much more extreme than the slice of it we have access to.

Take Canada, where it is said that the membrane of the matrix is particularly thin, we have a municipality called Port Colborne in Ontario, and this municipality is home to a special mill. A shrinking mill, as in the closer you get to it, the farther away it appears. Is this absolutely uncanny? Depends on whether or not you believe in the Ponzo illusion. No, that wasn’t what a certain team’s owners lost their money to; that was a ponzi scheme. A Ponzo illusion is just what’s happening to the mill, an accidental angle that plays tricks on the human eye.

A scientific explanation doesn’t stop people from congregating around that section of road, walking toward the mill and watch as it seemingly walks away. It’s neat, a nice little think. But a glitch in the matrix? Probably not.

But think about the glitch in the matrix. Is it not the call of glory, this sweater thread here, the branch being sawed off there. There is always a way to tell that what you and I see is definitely not all there is. But if you look around, you’ll see them. Maybe, just maybe, that’s what de ja vu is all about. You’re brain is just going over the glitch like my tire goes over the potholes in my driveway.
