Outta My Head – Thanks for Asking! – by Liam Sweeny.

RRX: What was the very first reaction to your music, from the first person to ever hear so much as a practice jam or the demo of your first song?

OMH:  When Outta My Head first started, we, like many bands, were just trying to write the best music we could in a basement. Then one day one of the guys brought a friend to chill. Then the next week that friend brought a couple friends. Before we knew it there were friends asking if they could come to rehearsal. Everyone told us that it was killer, but ya know how that is: our own worst critics. When we played our first gig ever, the place was packed!

RRX: “The best laid plans of mice and men…” I don’t really know the quote, but I know this one; sh*t happens. When we least expect it, calamity befalls us. Sometimes just comic inconvenience. Please tell us a story about some comic inconvenience that happened to you whilst performing?

OMH: This question leads to another saying, “ If it ain’t broke don’t fix it…”. In Spring of 2025 we had a headlining show at Empire Underground in Albany. In Kirk’s eternal paranoia he told everyone to put new batteries in their guitars; the last thing we want is a battery dying in the middle of our set. So Eddie changed his battery right before leaving home to go to load in, and when we got to load in and sound check, Eddie’s guitar was not working. We tried for 15 minutes to figure out why it wasn’t making a sound. Was it the guitar? The Chord? His effects rig? We finally discovered that when Eddie changed his battery, the wiring got pulled and disconnected in the guitar! Fortunately, we brought a spare guitar so the crisis was averted, but DAMN was that a stressful moment!

RRX: My singer punched my drummer out. Memorable moment, though nothing to brag about. But we have these things that, when summing up your endeavor, an incident comes to mind. What do you got?

OMH: We are very fortunate that OMH is drama free. No fighting, No arguments, No BS…. I know it’s boring, but it’s true. We are all so easy going. Everyone in the band is so incredibly willing to hear one another, and we truly have so much respect for each other.

RRX: We have to play somewhere, and sometimes those places have more going for them than a stage and a power outlet. What is a memorable place you played, and bonus points if it’s not a well-known place.

OMH:  Our Favorite place to play is Empire Underground. It has everything going for it. But one of the biggest surprises for us was a place called Bleachers Bar in Bristol CT. Not a huge stage, but it had great lights, great crowd, and absolutely AMAZING sound. I remember when we were sound checking it sounded so amazing, we all looked at each other with a “Holy Sh*t look on our faces.

RRX: Playing out is tricky because you never know what’s going to happen when you get there. Sometimes everything goes wrong. What was your worst show like?

OMH: We played at a little place in Troy NY (won’t mention names). Like a week before the bands were told that, “oh yea, we didn’t get our new in house PA yet”… like, REALLY?  So we bit the bullet for the sake of all the bands and we packed up our PA… There were 12 People there… Hahaha.

RRX: Would you rather have one of your songs blow up and make you a one-hit wonder and household name, or would you rather have all your songs be solidly received, but no chart-climbers? (You have to pick one or the other here.)

OMH: Honestly, we would rather be solidly received in general with longevity than a ONE HIT WONDER. I mean, really, Name a one hit wonder that has not been the brunt of brutal mocking. That being said, solid reception is a testament to integrity. Not compromising yourself for the sake of Radio fame. We would rather be a 7 for years over a 10 for a day!
