Chrissie Hynde
On October 17th, Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders will be putting out a duets album called “Always on My Mind.” It will include standards as well as covers, and will feature vocals by such greats as Rufus Wainright, Debbie Harry and Cat Power.
“I never thought about doing a Duets album before,” Hynde said via a press release. “I think the idea came about in 2023. I was talking to Jörn, Rufus Wainwright’s husband, on the phone. I think we were recommending novels to each other, and for some reason, I said ‘Hey, maybe Rufus and I should do something,’ and quickly scribbled out 10 songs off the top of my head. So Jörn asked Rufus, who was up for it, and that’s how it started. A spontaneous and what I thought would be a fun thing.”
The theme of great melodies permeates the album, and you can pre-order the album now.
Radiohead
Radiohead has a new release, Hail to the Thief Live Recordings 2003 – 2009. It’s currently out in digital form. This is a surprise album, and will only have a “one-off” pressing for October 31st. The album captures live performances from shows in London, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and Dublin.
From frontman Thom York: “In the process of thinking of how to build arrangements for the Shakespeare Hamlet/Hail To The Thief theater production, I asked to hear some archive live recordings of the songs,” Yorke said in a press statement. “I was shocked by the kind of energy behind the way we played. I barely recognized us, and it helped me find a way forward. We decided to get these live recordings mixed and released (it would have been insane to keep them for ourselves). It has all been a very cathartic process. We very much hope you enjoy them.”
The album, on top of a limited pressing, has an even more limited colorway, red and cyan.
Joe Perry
Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry, in a recent interview with WBUR, said that while a reunion show of the band might be possible, it is unlikely that it would lead to a tour.
““[Tyler] just doesn’t want to tour and he can’t tour. It’s tough. I’m not sure I would want to go out and book another 40-city tour. It’s a long way to the top and staying there takes it out of you, especially an Aerosmith tour” he said.
Although he said that, he and frontman Steven Tyler have been meeting over the summer to explore the issue. They looked at something a little simpler, like a Las Vegas residency.
About this option, Perry said, “I’ll never say never, but I wouldn’t bet on it — no pun intended,” Perry said. “You really have to want to be out there and we’re all at that point of: How do you want to live? How do you want to spend the next however long you’ve got?”
