SCHENECTADY, NY (September 8, 2025) — Discover Schenectady today announced that James Hood’s Beautifica will premiere in the Capital Region at the Museum of Innovation and Science’s (miSci) planetarium on Friday, September 19.

“We’re thrilled to bring Beautifica to miSci’s planetarium and continue expanding the ways people can experience science, art, and technology in one place,” said miSci’s President Chris Hunter. “Thanks to the support of our partners and the new upgrades to our facility, visitors will be able to enjoy another world-class immersive show right here in Schenectady.”

The Schenectady County Metroplex Development Authority provided more than $140,000 in funding to equip the planetarium for immersive programming, including Mesmerica, Rockin’ the Dome, and now Beautifica. Additional support was provided by the Bender Scientific Fund and the Niskayuna Community Foundation. Upgrades include a new projector, projection equipment, sound system, seating, and other technical enhancements.

Mesmerica was an incredible success, drawing visitors from near and far and showcasing the power of immersive experiences at miSci,” said Gary Hughes, Chair of the Schenectady County Legislature. “Now, with the arrival of Beautifica, the just-announced Rockin’ the Dome series, and other exciting attractions like Art of the Brick and the new Mohawk Harbor Arena, Schenectady County is offering an outstanding mix of arts, culture, and entertainment. We’re proud to see these opportunities continue to grow and look forward to welcoming even more people to experience all that our community has to offer.”

“Beautifica is the kind of experience that will not only draw local residents but also attract visitors from across the region,” said Todd Garofano, Executive Director of Discover Schenectady. “It’s a great example of how Schenectady County continues to be a premier destination for unique entertainment, dining, and cultural experiences.”
