Florence Welch, of “Florence + The Machine” Recovering

Written by on September 5, 2023

In celebratory news, “Florence + the Machine’s” Florence Welch is on the mend and back in action after emergency, life-saving surgery. She appeared at the MEO Kalorama Festival in Lisbon Portugal to headline with her band and duet with singer Ethel Cain before their slot.

“Florence + The Machine” had to cancel a few dates in August, understandable, and it wasn’t related to the broken foot that set back a UK tour.

The duet was the song “Thoroughfare,” a song in Cain’s debut album, “Preacher’s Daughter,” out this year.

And Cain returned the favor, lending her voice to Florence + The Machine’s “Morning Elvis,” which closed out their 2022 record ‘Dance Fever.’

Welch doesn’t yet feel strong enough to share the details of what put her in the arms of the medical system, but her return is welcome to fans young and old.

“Florence + The Machine”, an English indie rock band featuring, among others, Welch and friend Isabella Summer, formed in London in 2007 and released their debut, “Lungs” in 2009, and it shot up to number one on the UK charts. Sold 100,000 copies, and settled at No. 2 for five weeks. In our era of billions and trillions, a hundred-thousand copies doesn’t sound like much, but it is. Consider that people were already streaming, albeit illegally, in ’09.

Back to the present. Or maybe the future, copyright be damned. Ethel Cain will be in the good ole’ U.S. of A. soon, hitting Burlington, VT on October 3rd, and finishing up in San Fran on October 24th. And as for Florence Welch; did you know that a Florence + The Machine song was featured in “Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 3?” Florence had quite a reaction to seeing it, which she shared.

We wish Florence Welsh all the best, and we look forward to getting a media pass to Ethel Cain’s stop in Burlington (we look forward to it; doesn’t mean we’ll get it.) And you can find both Florence + the Machine and Ethel Cain wherever you find music. Or you can listen to our choice cut below.
